CORRECTING and REPLACING KCS Announces the Appointment of John S. Jacobsen as Vice President and Chief Engineer

Kansas City Southern (KCS) (NYSE: KSU) and its subsidiaries today announced the appointment of John S. Jacobsen as vice president and chief engineer, effective August 1. Mr. Jacobsen is responsible for engineering and maintenance of way for The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR).

"We are fortunate to have John back at KCS, said Scott Arvidson, KCSR executive vice president and chief operating officer. His extensive expertise in railroad engineering and maintenance of way will strengthen our efforts to improve infrastructure and grow capacity, while maintaining a safe operation. His assistance will also be valuable in effectively developing and mentoring our engineering team.

Mr. Jacobsen has been in the railroad industry for 38 plus years, working for Illinois Central and the Mid-South Railroad prior to its purchase by KCSR in 1993. From 1993 to 2001, he was KCSRs vice president and chief engineer. Since 2001, he has provided ongoing consultation to KCSR subsidiary Superior Tie and Timber. He was also integral to the rebuilding of the Panama Canal Railway Company (PCRC), and has provided ongoing engineering consultation to PCRC. Mr. Jacobsen holds a bachelor of science from Southern Illinois University.
