Macy's Thanks for Sharing Campaign Raises Record $13 Million

Macys (NYSE:M) 2007 national Thanks For Sharing holiday gifts rewards program reached an unprecedented $13 million to be donated to designated charities across the country. Macy's kicked off this nationwide program in late September, allowing customers to give back to charities in their local communities when they enrolled in the program at their favorite Macy's store and online at macys.com/thanksforsharing. Thanks for Sharing has benefited communities nationwide with more than $37 million in the last five years.

The primary Thanks for Sharing beneficiaries are the American Heart Associations Go Red for Women movement to promote heart health for women, as well as charities selected in each region of the country. These regional recipients include organizations such as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Special Olympics, Ronald McDonald Houses, America's Second Harvest, American Red Cross, United Way and the Boys & Girls Clubs.

Thanks For Sharing represents a meaningful way for Macy's and its customers to give back to the community through organizations that are doing important work to improve the quality of life. While we are a national company, Macy's is acting locally to support charities in the local communities where our customers and associates live and work, said Terry J. Lundgren, Macy's, Inc. chairman, president and chief executive officer. Our program has continued to gain momentum since its inception in 2003, with contributions growing four-fold over the past five years. This years extraordinary total of $13 million represents a record high.

For each Thanks for Sharing program member, Macys makes a $10 donation to Macys sponsorship of the Go Red For Women Campaign or to other participating charities, including local charities that receive the benefit of having Macys customers in their communities participate. In February and March, all program participants will receive their special Reward Card that can be used toward future Macys purchases.

Macys Thanks for Sharing debuted as a Macys initiative in 2003 a distinctive effort from which customers benefit during the holiday season, and charities benefit throughout the year. For a $25 enrollment fee, Macys cardholders earn a 10 percent reward on most Macy's and macys.com net purchases that were made with their Macys credit card during the holiday shopping season.
