Inflation comes in hotter than expected in February as high prices persist

The Labor Department released the closely watched February consumer price index report Tuesday, revealing just how hot inflation was running last month.

The Labor Department said Tuesday that the consumer price index, a broad measure of the price of everyday goods including gasoline, groceries and rent, rose 0.3% in February from the previous month. Prices climbed 3.2% from the same time last year, faster than the 3.1% headline figure forecast by LSEG economists.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
