Associated Press mocked for 'horny' deleted tweet on Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh's 'muscle-bound' arms

The Associated Press was ridiculed after posting and then deleting what many considered a sensual tweet on Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh and Oscar nominee Angela Bassett.

Twitter users praised and roasted a tweet from The Associated Press about the Oscar after-party Monday morning that focused on Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh and Academy Award nominee Angela Bassett’s "bare, muscle-bound arms."

The Associated Press described various interactions at Vanity Fair’s annual post-Oscars party following the 95th Annual Academy Awards ceremony. While covering the night, the publication’s Twitter account posted a description of Yeoh and Bassett hugging.

"Michelle Yeoh and Angela Bassett locked in a long embrace, their bare, muscle-bound arms wrapped around each other," the Associated Press tweeted.

The tweet was later deleted, but not before several social media users ridiculed the unusual comment on Yeoh and Bassett’s arms.

"and then.....?" comedian David Angelo asked.

Author Stefanie Iris Weiss joked, "It was literally your best tweet ever, BRING IT BACK."

"Tell me you wanted to be a romance author and not a journalist without telling me," psychiatrist Dr. Benjamin Janaway tweeted.

"AP and the delete button locked in a long embrace, their bare, muscle-bound arms wrapped around each other," culture writer Jill Krajewski wrote.

Communications manager Mary Emily O’Hara remarked, "Ah, the AP horny tweeting about muscular moms. Must be 2023."

"’Their bare, muscle-bound arms wrapped around each other’… not what I would’ve focused on but you do you @AP," musician Dan Le Sac tweeted.

The sentence was corrected and replaced by another tweet about the after-party.

"Vanity Fair’s annual post-Oscars party was full of moments of warmth and joy as Sunday night led into Monday morning after a drama-free Academy Awards, with stars embracing the celebration," the new tweet read.

The account also explained, "The AP has deleted a previous tweet about the Oscars after party because it contained awkward wording and lacked context."

A version of the same sentence appeared as the opening paragraph to the Associated Press' article on the after party.

"Michelle Yeoh and Angela Bassett locked in a long embrace, whispering and laughing with glee as nearly every phone in the vicinity came out to take photos," the opening read.

Yeoh made history at the Oscars Sunday night by being the first woman of Asian descent to win the award for Best Actress. She won for her acclaimed role in the film "Everything Everywhere All At Once."
