Startup eyes U.S. for 250 kW wind turbine production

Initial plans call for a $2.5 million, 10,000-square-foot manufacturing facility near Buffalo, New York.

Published reports said that Siva Powers America is eyeing a two-phase development project to assemble wind turbines for the domestic U.S. market.

Initial plans call for a $2.5 million, 10,000-square-foot manufacturing facility near Buffalo, New York, where the company would assemble nacelles and blades produced in India.

Future plans call for turbine blade manufacturing to be relocated to the New York State site from India.

The news was first reported by the Buffalo News.

Siva Powers is owned by clean-energy engineer Padma Kasthurirangan and VEVA Holdings and is based in Amherst, New York.

The initial phase would include 5,000 square feet of space for manufacturing, 2,000 square feet for warehouse, another 2,000 square feet for research and development and 1,000 square feet for offices.

The company said it is asking for around $640,000 in tax breaks, and reportedly talking with Invest Buffalo Niagara and Empire State Development Corp. about other assistance. The company said it also had looked at out-of-state options because of “easier permitting” and financing elsewhere, the newspaper reported.

Siva was founded in 2020 and produces the SIVA 250/50 wind turbine, a nominally rated 250 kW machine.
