October 11, 2022 - Palm Beach County, Florida - The last 5 years have been epic for the championship Celebrity Hotels at Sea polo team lead & captained by Tareq Salahi winning 99% of the time. The team which its teammates change based on handicaps, except for Salahi the team owner & captain is thrilled to announce victory championships in many of the most prestigious USPA & other tournaments both in the US & Internationally.
Kicking off 2022 Internationally, the Hotels at Sea Celebrity Polo team presented by Celebrity Cruises played in the World Cup invitational in Quito Ecuador and captured the World Cup by one amazing goal. The team returns to defend the World Cup June 17, 2023 and the polo match is open to spectators from around the world to attend including joining the Celebrity Flora for a seven night Galapagos cruise as an option.
Kicking off the Capitol Region USA 2022 polo summer season the Hotels at Sea Celebrity Polo team played in the historic 50th Anniversary for the Chief of Protocol Ambassadors Cup, originally created by the U.S. State Department as a tool of international diplomacy. The trophy was created in 1972 by Ambassador Marion Smoak, then Chief of Protocol of the United States. As an avid polo player, Ambassador Smoak sought to create an opportunity for friendly internal exchange, inviting teams from other nations which were attended by the diplomatic corps. In this years 50th Anniversary Ambassadors Cup leading the team was team Captain Tareq Salahi followed with professional polo players Marcos Bignoli, Wyatt Harlow & pro female player Julia Steiner. The Hotels at Sea polo team played against Beverly Equestrian lead by professional Tolito O’Campo and Will Bauhaus. Hotels at Sea Polo team defeated Beverly Equestrian and came out victorious winning by one last minute goal scored by Tareq Salahi.
The Celebrity championship team then set its sights for one of the oldest and most prestigious cups that rests at the famed Museum of Polo of Hall & Fame – the USPA Sherman Memorial established in 1935. “I have always wanted to play & win the USPA Sherman Memorial Cup” said Captain Salahi for his Celebrity Cruises/Hotels at Sea Polo Team. Indeed, Tareq and his teammates Hardy Pemberton & Marcos Bignoli dominated the entire tournament defeating all the other teams and winning the historic cup with the honor of having their names engraved for life on the trophy on display at the famed Museum of Polo Hall and Fame! The team will defend the cup in 2023 again.
Next up the team competed in the famed Celebrity Cup™ at historic Morven Parks “Polo in the Park” summer sunset polo series. It a fierce match between the two teams, the Hotels at Sea Celebrity polo team after being down by 2 goals comes back to win it in the last chukker of the match.
With the Celebrity Polo Team winning the majority of its matches the last several years, professional polo player Marcos Bignoli stated “Our Celebrity Hotels at Sea Polo Team has made the most consecutive finals in polo history these last five years we have entered in and winning 99% of the time – any sponsor or partner would and is thrilled with our record breaking victorys! – we certainly are.”
With a bright future ahead, the team entered the first time into the USPA arena US Open defeating other teams to make it into the prestigious finals, something that is often never able to be said by most player in their lifetime. “Making it into the finals of the US Open is a huge accomplishment in itself and we are so proud as a team we were able to do it, learn from it and say that we were able to participate at this most fierce competitive level in arena pro-polo,” said team captain Salahi. It was too bad we had to play against our own teammate this time, Tolito O’ Campo that originally committed to play on our Celebrity Polo team in the US Open and then last minute switched teams, a fact shared by Tolito O’Camp stating to the media “I used to play with Hotels at Sea Celebrity Cruises, but unfortunately had to play against them today.”
Slated for December, 2023 – the Celebrity Cruises/Hotels at Sea polo team will be entering a team into the US Open in Los Angeles and will return as the original team to be lead by Tareq Salahi and his teammates Marcos Bignoli & Tolito O’Campo with team coach Jonas Larguia.
For 2023, two major world cup invitationals are already on the books for the championship Celebrity Hotels at Sea Polo Team. They will defend the World Cup in south America June 17, 2023 and then play in the USA vs. Italy World Cup Invitational in Tuscany Italy, hosted & captained by Salvatore Ferragamo on Sunday, August 27, 2023.
