Elizabeth Aungier has been in the hospice business for many years and has been able to attend to people who have reached the last few months of their lives. Even though she has been in the business for a good amount of time and has seen death up close and personal, she still was not ready to deal with her father’s demise.

This book is a mixture of shared experinces she faced when her father was diagnosed with an illness she felt would take him away. The emotional scenes she went through and the unannounced grief she felt with each stage are all mentioned in this book.

Not only does it highlight the lows she felt through this process, but she also wants to help other people to cope with the stages that come along with knowing death is near. It gives a sense of acceptance to a person telling them that death is a part of life and everyone has to leave one day. We can either decide to live our lives with the beautiful memories that the demised have left behind, or we can bury our spirits with them.
