The Global Studies Institute Hosts the First Edition Of “Brain Camp”

The Global Studies Institute Hosts the First Edition Of "Brain Camp"Innovative Qatar-based institution of learning, the Global Studies Institute, successfully organizes the first “Brain Camp” competition featuring five schools across the nation.

The Global Studies Institute has again demonstrated their passion for educational excellence, with the hosting of Brain Camp. The first edition of the competition was held on Saturday, March 26, 2022, in the GSI building inside the Aspire Academy. It featured five schools - Qatar Secondary School for Science and Technology for Boys, Swiss International School, Tariq Bin Ziyad, Omar Bin Al Khattab Secondary School for Boys, and Aspire Academy, with each team consisting of two pupils of the twelfth or eleventh grade, or both.

This event reflects the Institute's interest in working with secondary schools to provide educational and awareness opportunities that help students acquire the knowledge necessary to determine their studies and future directions,” said Dr. Shaker Lashuel, Executive Director of GSI, expressing his happiness with the competition and indicating his great belief in the capabilities and skills of the participating students.

The unique educational event offered an amazing mix of engaging games and questions related to general knowledge and culture, enabling participating students to learn about the various specializations and opportunities available to them in their educational journey. It started by welcoming the participating schools, mentors and professors, as well as the students, with Dr. Shaker stressing the importance of collaboration and engagement between higher education institutions and high schools. Mr. Nidal Nassar, Program Director of Arkansas State University-Qatar and the coordinator for the competition also expressed his excitement to launch the competition for high school students in 2022 and highlighted the competition as an example of an interactive exercise to get students out of the rigid routines of their normal school activities.

The Brain Camp competition came to an end with the presentation of certificates to the participating mentors, professors, and students. Prizes were also distributed to the winning schools and students. Qatar Secondary School for Science and Technology for Boys, represented by Ahmed Al-Nasr and Mohsen Khalfan, came in the first place, followed by the Swiss International School represented by Roshan Fashani and Sayed Hamza Salim while the Tariq Bin Ziyad School represented by Omar Al-Emadi and Ahmed Al-Asiri came in third place. It is worth noting that the competition was very close, as the teams were half the mark between the last three teams.

Participants expressed their delight and optimism at the close of the event, with Ms. Kristen Allen, the mentor at the Swiss International School, stating “this competition is a good way to introduce students in a fun way to know how to apply what they will learn in the disciplines such as cyber security, digital design and technology.

Mr. Mustafa of Aspire Academy also said that his students enjoyed the competition and were doing their best to compete and learn something new. The student, Nabil Irfan (Aspire Academy), added that he learned new things during this competition and became more familiar with the field of cybersecurity, digital design and technology, as he very much enjoyed the participation of his teammate in the challenges he faced during this competition.
