Allan Corby Inspires with the Guitar in Latest Album, "Love is A Merry-Go-Round"

Allan Corby fell in love with the guitar at the early age of 13. Allan became involved in radio in the late ’60s (WBAI-FM) and had a unique radio segment called, “Mr. Guitarman”, in which he taught guitar chords to popular songs live on the radio. Research has shown that he may be the first to do this in 1971.

He began writing his own songs and in 1972, signed a record and publishing deal which produced original pop/disco tracks released on Polygram/Mercury and DiscoNet.

His talent led to performances in many clubs across NYC (The Bitter End, The Bottom Line, et al) as well as having the opportunity to be an opening act for The Doobie Brothers, ZZ Top, Rare Earth, Deep Purple, and Buddy Miles to mention a few. He also appeared with Yoko Ono and Weather Report at the Town Hall in NYC.

After getting married and starting a family, Allan took a 40-year break from the music industry. Now in his early 70’s, Allan is writing with fire and passion. “Love Is a Merry-Go- Round” is his newest CD acoustic-inspired release, produced by his online guitar teacher and finger-style guitarist extraordinaire, Lance Allen.

Some interesting facts:

In 1974 Allan presented a proposal to record companies to expose new acts on cable TV via video recordings of their performances. This show was to be called “Breaking In/Breaking Out.” This idea preceded MTV by 7 years. At the time it was presented, record executives thought no one watched Cable or had any idea of its potential. At that time Allan produced a Cable-TV program for Teleprompter, in NYC where he interviewed pop personalities such a Felix Cavaliere, lead singer of “The Rascals.”

Allan taught guitar to Bela Fleck, now a world-renowned banjo player, when Bela was 14 years old. Allan referred him to a then well-known artist, Erik Darling, for banjo lessons kicking off Bela’s very successful career.

Allan’s grandmother appeared in many successful movies including “Annie Hall”, and with Dustin Hoffman in “Lenny” and “The Marathon Man.” His sister is a well-known stained-glass artist living in North Carolina.

He lives in Hoboken, NJ with his wife Linda. They have daughter, Lila and granddaughter,Eloise.
