West Suburban Medical Center Hosts 'Think Pink, Get Screened' Breast Cancer Screening Event Oct. 25

Free Mammograms at River Forest Medical Campus for Eligible Women

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - October 25, 2021 - (Newswire.com)

West Suburban Medical Center is hosting a breast cancer screening Monday, Oct. 25, at their River Forest campus, with education for all women and free mammograms for those who are eligible.

The "Think Pink, Get Screened" event is another example of the hospital's investment in the health education and good health of its community.

The event will have an "Ask the Breast Specialist" information booth hosted by breast surgeon Dr. Rabia Bhatti, as well as radiologist Dr. Barry Lessin. A mammography technician also will be on hand to explain the technologically advanced 3D mammogram, answer questions, teach guests what lumps feel like and explain what a mammography image shows.

Breast care specialists will be on hand to answer questions from the public and prospective patients about care logistics, insurance, and other common concerns. Resource recommendations include resources available at A Silver Lining Foundation.

Festivities for the event will include family-friendly activities for kids such as arts and crafts, music with a live DJ and refreshments. Additionally, guests will enjoy treats from a cupcake food truck, Courageous Bakery. Independent artisan gift shop, Ten Thousand Villages, will hand-deliver gifts to the breast cancer survivors.

Special guests include:

  • Barbara Martin, CEO, West Suburban Medical Center
  • Camille Y. Lilly, State Representative, 78th District
  • Rabia Bhatti, MD, Breast Surgeon
  • Sandy Goldberg, PhD, Founder, A Silver Lining Foundation
  • Don Harmon, President, Illinois Senate

The remarks will be delivered beginning at 4 p.m.

Also at this event, guests will hear breast cancer survivor stories, including Michelle Diamante, whose father was a long-time West Suburban physician specializing in obstetrics/gynecology.

Event Details:

  • Where: River Forest Medical Campus, 420 William St., Building B
    • Activities will be held in the parking lot
  • Day: Monday, Oct. 25, 2021
  • Time: 3 pm - 7 pm

"It's very important that these free breast cancer screenings are made available to women who need them," said Dr. Bhatti. "Early detection is critical, and the new 3D mammography machines make detection a lot more likely, which means that more women can get treatment faster and have better outcomes."

Women eligible for a free mammogram should not have any symptoms of breast cancer, such as discharge, pain or lumps; no personal history of breast cancer within five years; and be uninsured. Women should also be 40 years of age or older, except if their mother had breast cancer prior to the age of 40, in which case, eligible women should be 30 or older.
