Filmmaker to Host Free Screening of Film for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I Am More Than My Hair, is a documentary film and photography book that includes stories of women who have experienced hair loss due to health-related conditions, such as breast cancer.

SILVER SPRING, MD, October 14, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- October is the month to reign supreme for the support of breast cancer survivors and those affected all over the United States. A Maryland filmmaker is taking action with the production and free screening of her award-winning documentary, "I Am More Than My Hair." Alyscia Cunningham, coined as a Filmmaker and Photographer the documentary to educate on the importance of hair loss and how breast cancer plays a role in the process.

I Am More Than My Hair, is a documentary film and photography book, now turned exhibition that includes stories of women who have experienced hair loss due to health-related conditions, including breast cancer and stress. The documentary details multiple journeys of self-empowerment to see beauty beyond the media's standards. According to Cunningham, "My goal with I Am More Than My Hair is to educate viewers about alopecia, the partial or complete absence of hair from areas of the body where it normally grows. Or in other words hair loss," said Cunningham, "It's important to note that a woman can lose her hair for many reasons including a side effect of radiation for cancer treatments."

The screening will open on Friday, October 15, 2021, at 5:00 PM (EST). Those who are interested will have until Sunday, October 17, 2021, 5:00 PM (EST) to watch. Once the viewers begin, they will have 24 hours to complete the film. Individuals must RSVP to view the film. This will also include a Q&A with Cunningham, which will take place on Zoom, Sunday, October 17, 2021, 5:00 PM-6:00 PM (EST) and will be moderated by Director, Alyscia Cunningham. Questions will be answered live on Zoom. Interested parties will receive the link to join the Q&A after registering on Eventbrite. ASL interpretation and Zoom auto-captions will be provided.
