Matthew Williams Wins Birth Injury Lawyers Group's Cerebral Palsy Scholarship

Williams will receive $2,500 toward his education at Drake University

PHOENIX, AZ, October 06, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Drake University student Matthew Williams was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP) at the age of 18 months, after enduring a 12-week premature birth. Initially, doctors considered it a long shot for him to ever learn to walk or speak. Today, Williams is a confident, impressive intellectual studying to become an accountant while maintaining a life of volunteerism and service to others. This makes him the perfect candidate for the Birth Injury Lawyers Group Cerebral Palsy Scholarship.

"Overcoming significant physical limitations has shown me that I can achieve anything with effort and dedication," Williams writes in his winning essay for the scholarship. Indeed, he has achieved a lot for a person of his young age. In addition to becoming an Easterseals ambassador to campaign for accessibility and raise funds for the organization, Williams also serves as a member of the administrative council/Board of Directors at his local church.

Williams is also heavily involved with Drake's Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) task force, working to improve accessibility measures and disability awareness on campus. In the summer of 2020, he was selected as one of five Bank of America Student Leaders in the Chicago area, which allowed him the opportunity to learn about the inner fiscal workings of top non-profits.

As someone who desires to one day lead an organization, Williams said the experience was invaluable. One of the most important points he learned, he writes, is that "the impact of a decision on a company's community, employees and environment are more important than anything that can be measured on an income statement."

For now, Matthew Williams continues to study accounting at Drake University. "I am leaning more toward the financial accounting/audit side of things," he said in an interview with a Birth Injury Lawyers Group representative. Regardless of where he ends up, it's clear that Williams has the will, drive, skills, and perseverance to succeed.

The Birth Injury Lawyers Group is proud to grant Matthew Williams its $2,500 Cerebral Palsy Scholarship award.

The Birth Injury Lawyers Group was created to provide educational and legal resources for families affected by birth injuries. It was founded in 2003 by attorney Robert Goldwater, whose triplets were born in 2002 with birth injuries and complications. In addition to providing aid and information to families, the organization also offers legal services for clients whose birth injuries are the result of medical malpractice or substandard medical care.
