Bellman & Symfon North America Is Celebrating National Deaf Awareness Month 2021

Living a normal life with hearing loss or permanent deafness can be a challenge all on its own. With technology, we are working towards creating a world where hearing loss isn't a big obstacle for anyone anymore.

WILMINGTON, NC, September 22, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Deaf Awareness Month is an initiative started by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD). It corresponds with International Day of Sign Languages 2021 as well as International Week of the Deaf People. It was celebrated all the way back in 1958, and the main goal is to bring awareness and raise advocacy for all people with hearing loss issues. Our objective at Bellman & Symfon to support those with hearing loss and deafness is to produce high-quality products to meet everyday needs. From assistive listening devices to hearing amplifiers, we have the tools needed.

The Visit Smart Home system was explicitly designed by Bellman & Symfon with hearing loss in mind. The Visit Smart Home system ensures the deaf and hard of hearing notice all the critical signals in the home, such as the doorbell, the phone ringing, or even something as serious as the smoke or carbon monoxide alarms. The alert system is designed to offer the deaf community peace of mind.

The World Health Organization tells us that more than 5% of the world's population has a level of hearing loss which could be classified as "disabling" – and these are the people National Deaf Awareness Month is trying to support. They estimate that over 1 billion young adults are at significant risk for permanent hearing loss due to unsafe listening and hearing practices. It is estimated that by the year 2050, nearly 1 out of every ten people will suffer from disabling hearing loss.

When it is unaddressed, hearing loss impacts an individual in many ways, from mental health, social isolation, a loss of education and employment opportunities to everyday communication and speech, and so much more.

As part of National Deaf Awareness month, many people learn a few of the most common American Sign Language signs to communicate with the hearing impaired and non-verbal. There are great apps that allow people to practice new signs on the fly. The deaf community is the largest single minority group in the entire country, and they do NOT get the representation they deserve.

"At Bellman & Symfon, we strive to provide quality products that make a positive impact on the deaf and hard of hearing," says Peter Jungvid, CEO of Bellman & Symfon North America. "Technology helps provide a quality of life that wasn't available ten plus years ago. We are proud to support this underserved community."
