Countries Where Digital Visas Are Available Through An Online Application

Countries Where Digital Visas Are Available Through An Online ApplicationDigital visas are now available to facilitate travel to many international destinations.

Digital visas are now available to facilitate travel to many international destinations. Governments worldwide are adopting simplified eVisa systems in ever greater numbers in order to expedite the process of obtaining a tourist visa for their territory.

In most cases, it is possible to apply for an eVisa in just a few minutes by completing a simple online form with basic personal, passport, and travel details. In some cases, it is also necessary to answer a few questions related to health and security matters and upload a few supporting documents in a digital format.

Compared to traditional embassy visa applications, the majority of digital visas are quickly approved, in just a couple of business days. They also allow passengers to avoid having to wait in long border lines on arrival to apply for a visa on arrival.

We’ve outlined some of the most popular digital visas currently available below.

Singapore electronic SG Card

While not all foreign citizens need a Singapore visa to visit the island city-state in Southeast Asia, all passengers arriving from abroad are required to have an approved SG Arrival Card to gain entry.

The electronic SG Card system was implemented to allow travelers to meet the Arrival Card requirement in advance of departure from the comfort of their own home. It replaces the now-defunct paper-based Disembarkation/Embarkation Card (D/E Card) system.

On arrival in Singapore, passengers do not need to a present a paper document, as the SG Card is electronically linked to the same passport used to complete the online application. The traveler simply needs to present their passport to immigration authorities to scan. However, they are still required to carry a digital copy of the Arrival Card approval on a mobile device in the rare case of problems with the electronic system.

India visa online

The electronic visa for India has been available for either tourist, business, and medical travel to India since November 2014. Over 170 different nationalities are eligible for this digital visa.

Both the business and tourist eVisas for India are multiple-entry visas that allow the holder to enter India as many times as they please during a validity period of 1-year. The tourist visa allows a 90-day consecutive visit per entry, while the business visa permits the holder to stay for up to 180 days.

The Indian eVisafor medical treatment, on the other hand, is a triple-entry visa that allows a 60-day stay with each entry and is valid for 120 days from the date of approval. It is available as either an  e-Medical Patient visa (for patients seeking medical treatment for a serious health condition at a recognized medical institution, in India), or an e-Medical Companion of Patient visa (for up to 2 travel companions over the age of 18).

Saudi Arabia online tourist visa

Prior to 2019, it was incredibly difficult to visit Saudi Arabia for tourism. This changed with the introduction of the online Saudi tourist visa, which was exclusively designed to open the Kingdom up to international tourism for the first time and facilitate tourist entry at its borders.

A multiple entry eVisa valid for 1 year from issue, the Saudi online visa allows the holder a 90-day tourist stay with each entry to the Kingdom. It can be used for entry at any seaport in Saudi Arabia, as well as at select airports and land border checkpoints.

Applicants for this online visa do not need to supply a huge range of supporting documents, although it is necessary to purchase a mandatory insurance policy to cover any medical expenses the traveler may incur. However, this is fully covered by the eVisa fee and processed by the Saudi government, so there is no need for the traveler to independently organize their travel insurance.

Turkey eVisa

The electronic visa for Turkey for tourist and business visitors was introduced in 2013. The Turkish government designed this eVisa to replace the “sticker visa” system previously in place for the country and remove the long border lines associated with that application method.

Unlike the digital visas discussed above, this visa may be issued as either a single or multiple entry eVisa and permit  a stay of either 30 or 90 days with each entry depending on the nationality of the traveler. All the Turkey eVisa options are valid for 180 days from the date of approval.

Once an eVisa for Turkey is approved, a copy of the document is sent to the applicant by email. The traveler can then make a printout to present to immigration officers on arrival.

Other digital visa programs

The digital visas listed above are just a small selection of the huge number of eVisa programs now available in countries around the world. Other territories that have implemented an eVisa include numerous Southeast Asian nations such as Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Additionally, the E-visa market is set to see huge growth in the coming years. Although they have yet to be implemented, digital visa programs are also in the works for Japan, Nepal, and Tunisia.

Furthermore, a number of countries worldwide have now implemented electronic visas for remote-working digital nomadsin order to facilitate international travel for workers during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. These include such exotic beach destinations as Barbados, Bermuda, and the Cayman Islands.
