In the spring of 2020, the mediation platform ammely was born by Keleya Digital-Health Solutions GmbH in cooperation with the German Midwives Association (DHV) in the middle of the Corona pandemic. One year later, “ammely” is now celebrating its first birthday – and is already showing considerable success for its young history. In the meantime, more than 4,000 midwives have registered, which is almost thirty percent of the freelance midwives in Germany. Over 10,000 becoming mothers and fathers found over www.ammely.de in times of midwife lack a midwife in their region.In the metropolises Hamburg, Munich and Berlin this corresponds to a 40% coverage. The steadily increasing number of links via the health insurance companies also increases awareness of “ammely” among users: In addition to Techniker Krankenkasse, more than ten other health insurers are already cooperating with the DHV and Keleya offer.
Practical midwifery: making everyday work easier
The mediation platform of the German Midwives Association and Keleya was developed in cooperation with practicing midwives from the very beginning and has been continuously improved since its launch in 2020. In the first year, for example, a search function by postal code, the narrowing of requests to the care radius of the midwives, the mediation of courses, and a Corona acute search for pregnant women expanded the digital offering.
And “ammely” continues to grow
In the first year, the midwives were given the opportunity to offer face-to-face and online courses via “ammely,” and further additions are imminent: “The goal is to gradually integrate additional functions that will save midwives time in their daily work. “There will be more news in this regard as early as summer 2021,” says Victoria Engelhardt, Managing Director of Keleya Digital-Health Solutions GmbH.
Professional policy: seizing opportunities through connection to digitalization
In terms of professional policy, “ammely” represents a great opportunity for all midwives: In the context of the digitalization of healthcare, a market is developing that affects everyday work and will have an even more profound impact in the future. With its strategy for digitalization, of which “ammely” is a part, the DHV wants to improve the framework conditions for the professional practice of midwives and thus strengthen midwifery care for women. “We can use “ammely” to generate good, in-depth knowledge about our work. This opportunity is now available and we must seize it in order to advance the obstetric care of women with midwifery assistance as well as the profession of midwifery,” says Ulrike Geppert-Orthofer, President of the DHV.
