The pseudouridine in snRNA has been shown to enhance the spliceosome RNA-pre-mRNA interaction to promote splicing regulation. The pseudouridine in rRNA and tRNA fine-tunes and stabilizes the structure of the region via the formation of additional hydrogen bonds between its additional imino groups and water, and helps maintain mRNA decoding, ribosome assembly, processing, and translation.

As RNA degrades, pseudouridine and other nucleosides are released in the cell to form free nucleosides. Unlike the common nucleosides (adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and uracil (U)), pseudouracil cannot be recycled by cells, so as not to disturb the RNA inherent modification map.
