The University of Maryland Global Campus launched a Cloud Computing MicroMasters program on EdX. The program was designed for individuals who would like to become cloud architects and engineers or learn how cloud computing can improve organizational efficiency.

A new online MicroMasters Program in Cloud Computing has been launched on EdX by the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) and the University System of Maryland (USMx). The 8-month program includes 4 graduate-level courses.

More information is available at https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=6798&awinaffid=665937&clickref=&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.edx.org%2Fmicromasters%2Fusmx-umgc-cloud-computing

The newly announced program will help participants gain expertise in cloud computing foundations and models and learn to use these technologies for improving business efficiency.

As businesses are moving their infrastructure to the cloud, computer resources, secure data storage, networking, and intelligence are available on-demand and the need for hardware and software is eliminated. The demand for experts in the versatile field of cloud computing has been growing rapidly in the last few years and will continue to grow in the near future.

The Cloud Computing MicroMasters program on EdX covers both the theoretical and practical aspects of cloud computing. It was designed for students who would like to become cloud architects, engineers, developers, or administrators.

In the first course, students will learn about Infrastructure As A Service (IaaS), Platform As A Service (PaaS), and Software As A Service (SaaS) platforms and the ways in which they can help businesses improve productivity and cut costs.

The second course covers public and private cloud infrastructure and will include practical lab projects, during which students will migrate a website to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) IaaS environment.

The third course focuses on cloud migration, the implementation of cloud solutions, and various problems that can arise with these processes, including legal and compliance issues. Students will also get acquainted with the industry standards and best practices.

The fourth and final course covers security breaches and the implementation of appropriate security policies for their prevention.

Students who want to earn the MicroMasters program certificate need to successfully complete all four courses and pass the final proctored exam. If they decide to apply to UMGC’s graduate school and are admitted, the program will give them up to 12 credits to be counted toward the 36 credits needed for the Master’s degree in Cloud Computing Architecture.

Greg Wenzel, Executive Vice President for Booz Allen’s Digital Solutions Group, said: “Programs like UMGC’s MicroMasters program in Cloud Computing are excellent opportunities for people seeking to stay ahead of the curve, learning about cutting-edge cloud and modular technology solutions that are required to excel in a modern, 24/7 environment.”
