Breakout Author Releases "Welfare Cheese to Fine Caviar: How to Achieve Your Dreams Despite Your Upbringing" In Hopes of Inspiring Those Struggling With a Different Perspective to Those That Can HelpLike many of today’s youth, Thomas Wideman grew up in the throngs of poverty, surrounded by traps at every turn. It was his decisions during those critical points that ultimately distracted him from the at-home struggles, shaped his future and gave him leverage to succeed. This is a true “rags-to-riches” story that is hard to put down.

Marietta, GA – June 22nd, 2021 – Author Thomas Wideman has officially announced the release of his highly anticipated memoir “Welfare Cheese to Fine Caviar: How to Achieve Your Dreams Despite Your Upbringing.” In his new memoir, Thomas shares intimate details of his upbringing, the poverty he experienced, and how deciding to focus on education saved his life. Even while experiencing negativity from his surroundings, he became Student Body Vice President, Starting Cornerback on the Varsity Football Team, and the recipient of a full tuition scholarship from Fluor Corporation and a scholarship from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Unbeknownst to everyone, Thomas forgoes his first semester of college so that he could attend military training in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Chemical Operations Specialist. This resulted in him losing his full tuition scholarship.  Afterwards, he attended the University of South Carolina and graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering.  When asked about that decision that cost him his scholarship, Thomas replied “I felt that I needed more self-discipline and that I would make the same decision if given another chance.”

Thomas then joined a Fortune 500 Corporation in the southeast, where he has built a successful career over the last 22 years.   He also graduated with an MBA in Finance from Georgia State University, attained a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, received Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI) Technology Transfer Award, and served as the Chair of the Air and Waste Management Association – Georgia Chapter.  These achievements were no easy task, as he constantly had to face financial problems, social problems and family issues growing up. Choosing to focus on education and his faith was the pivotal point in his life, and through his new memoir, he hopes to change lives by inspiring others to focus on the positive, even through the darkness.

During a recent interview, author Thomas Wideman was quoted as saying, “In my new memoir I share my most transformative (vulnerable) life experiences and learned lessons in an effort to help fulfill my mission of improving society one person at a time. After all, the willingness to be open and honest is one of the most powerful agents of change.” He went on to say, “Although this is my memoir, I am telling so many people’s stories regardless of race and am hoping that this book can serve as an agent of change for anyone that is struggling or for corporations and organizations looking to invest more in our country’s at-risk youth. No matter how dark ones’ past may be, with determination, hard work and faith, the future can be as bright as you want it to be.”

As of press time, Thomas’s memoir has garnered rave reviews, with one Amazon reviewer saying, “This book provides structured life encouragement to anyone, but particularly to those who may have come from meager beginnings. Thomas does a great job proving that a motivated and honorable individual does not have to perpetuate a culture of poverty and underachievement just because they were born into it. An inspiring and ultimately feel-good story with true, meaningful strategies for success and personal experiences embedded within.”
