Social Issues Author - Marjy Marj, Writes Children's Book on Immigration

Sasha Goes to America is an insightful and important story that will spark young readers' curiosity.

SPARTANBURG, SC, May 24, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ghanaian American author, Marjy Marj, has written her first children's book. Titled Sasha Goes to America, the book is based on the author's debut novel - The Shimmigrant. A 2019 bestselling top new release, The Shimmigrant is a poignant yet optimistic story about a young girl's perseverance. Sasha Goes to America is book 1 of a 3 part Young Shimmigrant series based on the 2019 novel.

Set in Ghana and the United States, the book is about a 12-year-old housemaid who immigrated from Ghana to the United States.

Reviewed and highly rated by children, educators, publishers, attorneys, subject-matter authors, immigrants, and booksellers, Marjy's work seeks to highlight the dangers of child labor and exploitation. She also wants to shed a light on the stories of immigrants and people of color across the world.

According to Penguin Random House / Knopf Doubleday and Hub City Press author Michel Stone, "Marjy Marj's beautifully illustrated Sasha Goes to America illuminates an uncommon occurrence with insight and empathy and will spark her young readers' curiosity about our great big world. Hers is not a polemic tale, but, rather, a sweet story that will appeal to children of all backgrounds and experiences." - Michel Stone, M. Ed. Author: The Iguana Tree and Border Child

Sasha Goes to America is available online and in select European and North American bookstores. It will be available in Ghanaian bookstores in June of 2021. The book was illustrated by Fleance Forkuo of Accra, Ghana.
