The family is also calling on the US State Department to request the Kenyan Government to take immediate action to find Bashir.

[Nairobi, Kenya, May 18th 2021] - The family and friends of Bashir, a 35 years old American businessman and father of two children, have raised alarm on his sudden disappearance and possible abduction. The ex-Boeing Engineer disappeared without a trace on Thursday, May 13, 2021, in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. On Monday, May 17, 2021, his burnt car was found on the outskirts of Nairobi City. Bashir, a University of Washington graduate and resident of SeaTac Washington, moved back to Kenya in 2016 to take charge of his brother's construction design company Infinity Development Limited.

Bashir's disappearance is only one of the many cases of the disturbing trends of abductions and killings by criminals and law enforcement in Kenya. In March 2021, there was a case of a senior official of the National Land Commission of Kenya, Jennifer Wambua, who was abducted and murdered. Mrs. Wambua had recently given testimony in a case against a Member of Parliament accused of conspiring to defraud the Kenyan Government.

There was also the case of four men who suddenly went missing on April 19, 2021, in Kitengela, Kajiado County, Kenya. The body of one of the men, Elijah Obuong, 35, was later found in the Mathioya River in Murang'a County, inside a sack.

Bashir's family has since filed a police report & notified the US Embassy in Nairobi. They are concerned that the Kenyan authorities are not committing sufficient resources to find Bashir. The family is also calling on the US State Department to urge the Kenyan Government to take immediate action to find Bashir and return him safely to his family.

There has been an increase in cases of missing persons, abductions, and even killings in Kenya recently. Amnesty International, a human rights advocacy organization, released a statement condemning the abductions and forced disappearances carried out by Kenyan law enforcement. The group wants the president of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyata, security officials in his cabinet, and the police chief to call the rogue officers to order and stop them from kidnapping, detaining, and killing Kenyan youths.

Bashir’s disappearance has raised safety concerns among the burgeoning expatriate business community in Kenya. An acquaintance of Bashir and a fellow businessman has indicated that he is contemplating returning with his family to the US if the security situation in Kenya does not improve.
