AI Startup to Advance Development of First-of-its Kind Communication Analysis Tool

SAN DIEGO - March 22, 2021 - PRLog -- CommSafe AI, a first-of-its-kind technology startup that specializes in workplace conflict and violence prevention, has secured its first VC-backed funding, bringing the total amount raised over the last several months to $1.8 million. The new investment round will enable CommSafe AI to further develop its first-to-market communications safety analysis tool and expand its engineering team.

The CommSafe AI tool is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product that allows organizations to get ahead of threats of conflict and violence in the workplace before they happen. The tool uses AI models to analyze company communication to prevent bullying, sexual harassment, discrimination, IP theft, fraud, conflict, violence, Title IV and IX violations, anti-diversity and inclusion, and sabotage. CommSafe AI is currently beta testing its AI tool with select clients and plans to introduce it to the commercial market later this year.

As part of the latest funding round, Blu Venture Investors provided $200,000 to CommSafe AI. Ty Smith, Founder and CEO of CommSafe AI, said Blu Venture Investors recent investment signifies the company's growth and market potential.

"Blu Venture Investors is enthusiastic about its investment in CommSafe AI," said Bob Struble, Principal at Blu. "Ty and his fantastic team have identified an acute workplace issue plaguing companies large and small, and are building an intelligent solution to alleviate the problem. By alerting companies to potentially harassing or violent communication, the CommSafe platform will not only help companies limit their liability, it will also increase workplace safety for all employees."

Additionally, City Light Capital, an early-stage VC firm that invests in startups specializing in education, safety and care, and the environment invested $50,000.  "City Light Capital is excited to have the CommSafe AI team join our City Spark 2.0 seed portfolio of promising new entrepreneurs and their products," said Tom Groos, Partner with City Light Capital. "Preemptive situational safety at the workplace, and protection from workplace bullying and violence online is good news for all employees of an enterprise.  CommSafe AI's technology and the depth of experience of its leadership will create a formula for success with client companies and their team members."

The startup recently hired its first Chief Data Scientist, Apoorv Srivastava, a seasoned technology executive. Srivastava – a predictive analytics and natural language processing expert – is helping develop new data science capabilities for CommSafe AI, as well as creating and executing strategies that will improve the business's performance as the company continues to develop its AI-driven tool.

"This early state investment means validation of our team, technology, and our market size," said Smith, a retired Navy SEAL with 20 years of service.

Smith, who founded CommSafe AI in 2015, has assembled an executive team that includes seasoned and highly trained military and law enforcement experts, including former US Military Special Operations and US Secret Service members.

The company's much-anticipated AI tool comes at a time when concern over conflict and violence are at an all-time high in the United States.

"Between the pandemic, racial tensions, police brutality and pre- and post-election violence, we are experiencing an unprecedented time," Smith said. "We now have advanced technology -  such as AI communications tools, voice recognition and behavioral analytics - to better prevent these emerging threats."

Smith said these threats will continue to spill over into the workplace, even as people continue to work from home. In fact, a recent report,  "2021 State of Protective Intelligence Report: The Outlook from Physical Security, Legal, Compliance and Risk Leaders," showed top concerns for security decision-makers at U.S. companies include a dramatic rise in physical threats, lack of unified intelligence, and physical security challenges brought on by COVID-19.

"In today's world, organizations need more effective tools and strategies to keep their employees safe and productive," Smith said. "That's why I founded CommSafe AI, to help organizations prevent conflict and violence in the workplace while boosting their bottom line and protecting them from potential lawsuits."
