With three weeks remaining for enrollment, Macy’s (NYSE:M) and its customers have already raised $12 million for charities around the country through its 2007 Thanks for Sharing holiday gifts rewards program. Macy’s kicked off this national program in late September, allowing customers to give back to charities in their local communities when they enroll in the program at their favorite Macy’s store and online at macys.com/thanksforsharing.
In the previous four years combined, Thanks for Sharing has benefited communities nationwide with more than $24 million.
Thanks for Sharing benefits the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” movement to promote heart health, as well as charities selected in each region of the country by the seven Macy’s divisions. These regional recipients include organizations such as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Special Olympics, Ronald McDonald Houses, America’s Second Harvest and the American Red Cross.
“Macy’s Thanks for Sharing initiative has tremendous momentum, reaching the $12 million fundraising goal with three weeks still remaining,” said Terry J. Lundgren, Macy’s, Inc. chairman, president and chief operating officer. “The success is the result of the dual benefit for customers – the chance to give back at this important time of year, and the chance to earn back reward dollars. Thanks for Sharing has become a cornerstone holiday tradition that gives us the chance to come together with our customers in support of charities, including local charities, that make a difference. ”
Thanks for Sharing debuted as a Macy’s initiative in 2003 – a distinctive effort from which customers benefit during the holiday season, and charities benefit throughout the year. For a $25 enrollment fee, Macy’s cardholders can earn a 10% reward on most Macy's and macys.com purchases made with their Macy’s credit card during the holiday shopping season through December 31, 2007.
For each Thanks for Sharing program member, Macy’s makes a $10 donation to the sponsorship of the Go Red For Women Campaign or to other participating charities, including local charities that receive the benefit of having Macy’s customers in their communities participate. In February and March 2008, program participants will receive their special Reward Card. Details on the Thanks for Sharing program are available online at macys.com/thanksforsharing or at participating Macy’s stores nationwide.
