Jazz pianist and composer John A. Lewis (JohnALewisjazz.com) celebrates the release of his tenth jazz CD “Nefariosity” on the Valarteri Jazz label, and features four originals by Lewis (“G-Rod,” “Symbiotic Snook,” “Nefariosity,” “A Comedy Of Errors”), along with a less-frequently recorded composition, “Think Of One”, by jazz pianist Thelonious Monk, two classic jazz compositions by saxophonist Wayne Shorter, “Nefertiti” and “Footprints”, and a Great American Standard, “Summer Nights” a pensive ballad by composer Harry Warren. This new CD release follows in the steps of Lewis’ previous nine albums, one of which One Trip Out, reached number eight on the CMJ chart. Accompanying Mr. Lewis on this new jazz album are Jeff Pickering and Mitchell Jantzie on bass, Austin Pierce and Sean Lynch on drums.

Mr. Lewis has garnered accolades from noteworthy writers and publications in the music industry including Jazz Improv Magazine that wrote: “a deserving-of-greater-recognition group immersed in the jazz tradition even as Lewis pushes the envelope with his intriguing compositions.” For more information about jazz music pianist, composer John A. John A. Lewis is a native of Dallas Texas. An alumnus of Mountain View Junior College and Southern Methodist University, Mr. Lewis studied both trumpet and composition. He was fortunate to have been surrounded from an early age with professionals in the music business and gained valuable experience in the process by being around such legends as Ray Charles. Mr. Lewis’ father and grandfather handled the booking, promotion and management of such internationally renowned artists as James Moody, Etta James, Johnnie Taylor, David Newman and James Clay. Mr. Lewis is a former student of noted jazz educator Dr. Thom Mason and the late local pianist composer Claude Johnson Jr. After performing in R&B and top 40 bands as a trumpet player, John switched to piano and has since focused on performing and composing jazz. He draws his musical influences from Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter and classical composers Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and Eric Satie. As the leader of the John A. Lewis trio and quartet, his groups keep busy in the Dallas area and have performed at the South Dallas Cultural Center, the Sammons Center for the Arts, the Dallas Museum of the Art: Jazz In The Atrium series and music festivals, clubs and restaurants throughout the Dallas and Fort Worth area.
