Mending Kids, Medshare and Americares Donates Essential Supplies to the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services

GLENDALE, Calif. - May 1, 2020 - PRLog -- Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mending Kids, a nonprofit organization, has repurposed its mission to help underserved communities as an extension of its Mend US program. The nonprofit has been actively involved in sourcing, coordinating and distributing personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essentials to clinics throughout Los Angeles. Recently, Mending Kids secured donations for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services by reaching out to its medical supply partners, MedShare and Americares, which normally provides the nonprofit with medical supplies for its overseas surgical missions. Donations were delivered to the Department of Health Services on skid row Friday at 11:00 a.m.

As global health and economic challenges persist during these uncertain times, Mending Kids has gained significant support from individuals and businesses in joining in its efforts to provide relief during the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with Medshare and Americares, earlier this month the nonprofit received a $10,000 matching grant from the Open Hearts Foundation to continue assisting vulnerable communities in the greater Los Angeles area.

Since the outbreak, Mending Kids has sent supplies to the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital in South LA, Loma Linda University Medical Center, Saban Community Clinic, Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic, Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE), Hubert H. Humphrey Comprehensive Health Center-LA, Central City Community Health Center, AltaMed Medical Group, Venice Family Clinic, along with other clinics located in Downtown and East LA.

With the collective generosity of MedShare, Americares, Open Hearts Foundation, as well as other contributors, the nonprofit has donated thousands of masks (NK95, N95 and surgical masks), face shields, gloves, Tylenol, wound care supplies, nasal cannulas, IV fluids, SP02 monitors, glucose analyzers, stethoscopes and a portable ventilator.

Moving forward, Mending Kids will continue securing donations and needed supplies as well as prepare for its 8th annual Los Angeles Hometown Mission.

"It is our mission to do what we can with the resources that we have, or have access to, to help. Because when the dust finally settles, we won't only be recovering from a viral pandemic but an economic one as well. Homelessness and need will now have a new poster-child that will make us rethink and appreciate how precariously poised we all are to potentially face this." -Isabelle Fox- Executive Director of Mending Kids

Mending Kids will move forward with its 8th annual Los Angeles Hometown Mission as soon as it is safe to do so and is currently accepting referrals for patients - children (0-18) who may be in need of elective procedures that have been denied coverage by insurance, once surgeries resume.
