In a brief media release, Amy Witherite said that the funds were raised through an in-house program called EW Cares, which was created through voluntary bi-weekly deductions from staff paychecks. Ms. Witherite added:
“We wanted to see how our contributions would make the best impact on our clients, extended family members and members of the Houston community, so we created the program as opposed to donating straight to the Red Cross.”
Amy matches every penny of the contributions made, and the firm was able to donate $25,000 to The Mostyn Moreno Foundation through EW Cares on September 18th.
The firm was concerned that, with the holiday season fast approaching, donors would lose focus of the dire need for continued support to the Texas communities that were devastated by the hurricane. As a result, the firm has committed to sustain its donation program through the end of the year, ensuring that contributions continue to be made through the holidays.
The Glenda Jean Mostyn and Joe E. Moreno Educational Foundation has been set-up to support, promote and operate projects and programs in Texas, mainly in the East, Southeast, Gulf Coast region and Greater Houston area, that are focused on the abilities of children with special needs.
