Higher open as crude oil rises

The markets opened higher with the Dow gaining 36 points to 21,739 as crude oil prices rose. Nasdaq climbed 28 points to 6,241.


On the upside


Rising crude oil prices lifted shares of Baker Hughes (NYSE: BHI).


Macy's (NYSE: M) named eBay executive Hal Lawton as its new president.


Brazil has proposed privatizing Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras (NYSE: EBR).

On the downside


Momo (Nasdaq: MOMO) reported sharply higher second quarter earnings but the results fell short of expectations.


Coty (NYSE: COTY) widened fourth quarter losses more than expected.

AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE: AU) fell to a loss for the first half.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 7 to 3 on both the NYSE and on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 rose 5 points to 2,433. Bitcoin plummeted $136 to $3,890.
