Stealth Outlook Update Causing Widespread Email & Server Crashing

By: PRLog
MSP Help Desk Goes Crazy Monday Morning because of unannounced Microsoft update.
NEW YORK - July 22, 2016 - PRLog -- This past Monday, Microsoft distributed a stealth automatic update causing havoc in thousands of offices across the nation. The update was packaged inside an Outlook/Exchange mandatory update. We're sure, although Microsoft has made no official comment, that the update was meant to fix security holes, or smooth out small errors or some other innocuous issues.

The results however, for many, were very different. "It seems Microsoft is pressing everyone to its new 2016 platform," said Mike Achey, COO of Responsible Computer Solutions. "We weren't notified of the update or given an opt-out. The only way we knew about the update is our help desk went crazy Monday morning with email calls," Achey continued.

"If it works, stick with it." For business computer users, that's the golden rule. Often that means small and medium-sized businesses are running software that's 5 years or more since its original release date. Generally, business owners will avoid updates as much as possible because in most cases today's networks string across multi platforms, multi systems and often multi locations all held together in careful balance. Any update to one or another system can and usually does push the entire system out of balance.

Such is the case with this stealth update. "We have clients that now find themselves needing to invest in or update an entire system," Achey went on to explain. "It's not a problem with the update. It's more about notice. If some part of a network is going to be obsolete, we like to plan for that. This way our clients can budget for the update, not just have it dropped on them," Achey concludes.
