MIAMI - May 6, 2016 - PRLog -- An avowed Terrorist who calls himself Miami Muhammad imposed a Fatwa and vowed Jihad against Doug Shear and anyone who contributes to the Indiegogo campaign for the stage play No Pictures Please.
The Terrorist warned potential supporters of the stage play not to contribute even five dollars to the project or risk being added to his hit list.
He posted his threats on the actual Indiegogo comments page. Ironically, he was forced to make a five-dollar contribution to the campaign in order to be eligible to post his comments.
When notified of the threat, Doug Shear responded: "He may want to kill me, but he's still a supporter. I thank him for his contribution. I guess now he has to add himself to his own hit list."
The stage play itself is an over-the-top satire of the Prophet Muhammad. It includes an actor, dressed as a flamboyant Muhammad, singing and prancing about the stage.
"I suppose some Muslims might consider that offensive," Doug said, "but satire is always offensive to the people being satirized. It's called free speech. Why is the Prophet Muhammad the only public figure, living or dead, who cannot be shown in film, stage plays, television or any mainstream media?"
Attempts to violate that prohibition by advocates of free speech, such as Charlie Hebdo and Pamela Geller, are occasionally met with violence. For that reason, Doug chose to produce and film the stage play once, with the help of Indiegogo supporters. And lots of security.
Doug doesn't think he'll have any difficulty finding an audience. "We will reach out to all the brave people in Miami who believe in free speech," he said. "If we don't get enough of them we will reach out to all the crazy people. Between the two we'll fill the Venue."
In spite of the threat of so-called terrorists and the desperate pleas of his family and friends, Doug has no intention of withdrawing the campaign. He plans to produce No Pictures Please as a stage play, a film and a documentary.
"One of the reasons I chose the Indiegogo platform," Doug said, "was that it offers supporters the option of donating anonymously, or with a made up name."
If the campaign is not fully funded, Doug will seek other means to get it produced. He has a list of conservative actors that he may be able to shame or blackmail into financing the production.
This isn't the first time Doug Shear has pushed the envelope on social convention. He distributed Fidel Castro Voodoo Dolls to Cubans in Miami, published a memoir called American Karma - Twilight of the Marijuana Gods, and wrote a novel that included The Apocalyptic Cookbook - How to Catch, Kill & Cook Everything. His stage plays and monologues have been performed in both South Florida and Toronto, and he has appeared several times at the popular Lip Service Stories event at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables, Florida.
