‘Industrial Internet’ to maximize operational efficiency in healthcare facilities

Machines, analytics and the Industrial Internet key topics at the Big Data conference in Dubai
DUBAI HEALTHCARE CITY, UAE - Jan. 11, 2016 - PRLog -- In healthcare, the Industrial Internet permits users to combine machines with analytics to deliver valuable insights. The results can be ground-breaking and can transform their technological infrastructure. This means minimising unplanned downtime, maximising device utilisation/uptime and overall operational efficiency. The Industrial Internet connects caregivers with machine data and analytics that can help drive tangible clinical, operational, and financial outcomes for the hospital, ultimately improving patient care and efficiency with care delivery.

The Industrial Internet helps healthcare institutions in the UAE by enabling smarter operators with visibility into operations anytime, anywhere to initiate immediate action and understand performance at every level. It provides operation performance metrics and information as well as predicting maintenance needs to avoid problems before they happen. It also improves maintenance operations and asset utilization for less downtime, increased production and lower risk.

“One example of using data to drive hospital operations includes a combined collection of MR machine data with targeted education and workflow design to help reduce holdups impacting patient wait and exam times. This solution helped a department reduce 1-hour time slots to 50 minutes, reducing exam durations by an average of 10% and gaining over 2,250 slots per year for MRI exams. GE could also identify which exam types and operators needed educational intervention,” says Mohamed El-Demerdash, General Manager, Field Services of GE Healthcare growth markets.

Mr. El-Demerdash will discuss the use of the Industrial Internet and how this can influence the way we deliver healthcare in the UAE at the Big Data Conference during the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress. The Big Data conference will take place from the 25-26 January 2016 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center Dubai, UAE.

Data drives outcomes, the patient experience, standardised care, higher asset utilisation and better technological/staff performance. Currently, with the exception of Dose Management solutions, the Industrial Internet is driving operational enhancements, which in turn impact the patient and clinician experience.

“Nowadays, the focus has primarily been on CT and MR. However, this will expand further into radiology as well as other medical devices over the next years,” concluded El-Demerdash.
