Socially conscious fashion brand announces Kickstarter campaign

By: PRLog
Empowering Mayan Artisans from Guatemalal to reach the Global Marketplace
PANAJACHEL, Guatemala - Dec. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Hiptipico, a socially conscious fashion brand based in Guatemala, is launching a 30-day Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to help its local artisan partners and families.

Hiptipico is an ethical fashion brand that empowers local indigenous artisans by creating sustainable avenues to sell handmade items to larger markets across the globe.

The company is launching on Dec. 21 a Kickstarter campaign to raise $23,000 to provide financial support to the local indigenous artisans with cash flow. The money raised will go toward helping the artisans purchase all of the materials up front to begin larger-scale production and housing the unique products in the company’s U.S.-based warehouse.

“Using the Kickstarter platform is such a great opportunity for us. Being located full-time in Guatemala, I dedicate most of my time and energy to maintaining trusting relationships with our artisan partners,” McGarry says. “Having received great interest from large buyers around the world, it is so exciting to take on these new orders, but also extremely difficult from rural Guatemala. This campaign will allow us to allocate funds to our artisan partners, empowering them to scale their production to the demand of our new clients."

McGarry will use the money raised from the campaign to expand the brand’s Backpacks that Give Back Scholarship, a program that helps send young Mayan children to international school in Guatemala.

“Also, we are donating 10 percent from all the funds received in this Kickstarter campaign directly to our scholarship program. Knowledge is something you cannot take away from someone; and sending more children to school with these funds is critical to the future of our artisan communities,” McGarry says. “Our scholarship recipients become trilingual in our program, speaking Kaqchikel, Spanish and English with ease. Our vision is to give our artisans’ children the skills they need to escape poverty and empower them to become leaders in their community.”

People can donate as little as $10 to the campaign and receive a one-of-a-kind Hiptipico product in return. For $3,000, one fan and a friend or family member will be able to travel to Guatemala and see Hiptipico up close and in person. The gift includes artisan visits, transportation once in Guatemala, food and accommodations for two people. It does not include airfare to and from Guatemala, personal expenses or alcoholic beverages.
