Hotel Market Data (HMD) Index indicates the US room supply for the combined Marriott International & Starwood Hotels & Resorts will increase by nearly 34,000 rooms by end of Q4 2016.
CHICAGO - Nov. 20, 2015 - PRLog -- Marriott International Inc. (NYSE: MAR) and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. (NYSE: HOT) have recently announced a merger and as a result the total room supply in the US between the two firms is expected to increase by nearly 34,000 rooms within the next 12 months.
According to the HMD Index, a resource that provides real-time supply and construction pipeline data of the US hotel industry, the newly merged firms will have a combined 4,276 hotel properties within the US containing over 733,000 rooms by year’s end 2016. By comparison, Hilton Worldwide (NYSE: HLT), currently the largest hotel operator within the US in terms of total keys, is projected to have 4,058 US hotel properties containing a total of 599,747 rooms by the end of Q4 2016. As a result, Hilton moves from being the largest operator with 6.6% more rooms than Marriott within the US to the 2nd largest operator with 22.3% less rooms than Marriott-Starwood within the US by the end of Q4 2016.
