The markets retreated from early morning highs with the Dow rising 38 points to 16,301 as consumer sentiment slipped. Nasdaq added 5 points to 4155. 

On the upside 

Shares of TriNet Group (NYSE: TNET) extended its gains.

Energous (Nasdaq: WATT) stock surged in its market debut.

InterCloud Systems (Nasdaq: ICLD) denied allegations that it paid stock promoters to write articles in favor of the company.

On the downside

Russian Hill Capital warned that Whiting USA Trust (NYSE: WHX) was overpriced and that the stock price would likely drop substantially.

Exelixis (Nasdaq: EXEL) extended its losses.

Investors locked in profits on Clovis Oncology (Nasdaq: CLVS).

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 3 to 1 on the NYSE and by 9 to 7 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 gained 7 points to 1856. Bitcoin added $3.55 or 0.7%% to $502.33.
