Markets higher ahead of Fed statement

The markets traded modestly higher with the Dow rising 19 points to 17,923 as investors await the Federal Reserve’s statement. Nasdaq added 4 points to 5,060.

On the upside

Noranda Aluminum Holding (NYSE: NOR) secured $15 million in financing to complete its state-of-the-art redraw rod mill.

Shares of Nivalis Therapeutics (Nasdaq: NVLS) soared on its first trading day.

Hill-Rom Holdings (NYSE: HRC) will acquire Welch Allyn for approximately $2.05 billion in cash and stock.
 
On the downside

Davids Tea (Nasdaq: DTEA) fell to a loss for the first quarter.

Investors locked in profits on Juno Therapeutics (Nasdaq: JUNO).

Profit taking weighed down shares of Align Technology (Nasdaq: ALGN).
 
In the broad market, advancing issues barely edged out decliners by a slim margin on the NYSE while advancers outpaced decliners by more than 10 to 9 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 held steady at 2096. Bitcoin added $3 to $249.
