According to Environmental Protection Agency, January 2015 is National Radon Action Month. Radon is a deadly natural, invisible and odorless radioactive gas that can cause health issues. Radon is actually more dangerous than carbon monoxide. By testing your home for radon you can reduce your family's risk of lung cancer. A lot of the Health Agencies across the states have joined together during National Radon Action Month to give awareness of the leading cause of lung cancer. The American Lung Association, Centers for Disease Control and National Cancer Institute are in agreement that radon is a worldwide health problem and encourage radon testing during the "National Radon Action Month". Radon gas is not isolated to certain geographical areas or home types.

National Radon Action Month awareness drives are all across the nation. Non smokers developed lung cancer due to exposure to radon, National Radon Action Month is to help educate people on healthy prevention of natural gases. You are unable to see, smell, or taste radon, but that doesn't mean it's not in your home. National Radon Action Month is to remind Americans to check for radon, but not necessarily the only time that you should. There are inexpensive home test kits out and available in most local hardware store chains and many professional businesses out there to help you test your home.

The National Radon Action Month has the Surgeon General and the EPA urging all Americans to test radon during "National Radon Action Month". All homes, schools and many other buildings should be tested for radon. If radon happens to show up in your home, you should contact an air quality professional to take the proper steps to clear your home of radon. Then once a year during National Radon Action Month, retest your home.

National Radon Action Month has key leaders in the public health having recently had a meeting about the Federal Radon Action Plan. The plans consist of steps to reduce radon exposure. Environmental and Private Sectors will be launching this radon action plan in January 2015 during National Radon Action Month.

There are many different ways you can participate in National Radon Action Month. You could start by telling others how to reduce radon during National Radon Action Month and throughout the year. One way to get the word out is by planning your own activity or National Radon Action event. This is a great way to educate others and get the word out to the community and promote your National Radon Action Month event, you could use local media outlets to run a Public Service Announcement.
