Rain Boot Buying Advice Article By OutdoorGearLab

By: PRLog
In addition to their comprehensive review, OutdoorGearLab offers advice for consumers to consider when making rain boot buying decisions.
PRLog - Sep. 8, 2014 - CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- OutdoorGearLab.com, a well know website known for its side-by-side comparison tests of outdoor apparel and equipment, has published a rain boot buying advice article. This guide is a free resource designed to inform consumers and help them through the process of purchasing rain boots.

For three months the OutdoorGearLab test team scrutinized ten pair of popular products from well respected brands, such as Kamik, Boggs and Muck Boot and put them through some serious hands on testing. After all the testing was complete, Gear Editor, Jared Dean compiled all of his findings in a buying advice article to help others choose the best possible rain boots.

Gear Editor Dean begins the article explaining the difference between rain and winter boots. Typically rain specific designs are made of neoprene or rubber, have taller shafts and lack laces, meaning they slip on and wear a little loose. They usually have insulating liners, which can be great for winter weather but not so great for summer or spring rains. Winter specific models are waterproof, usually have leather or textile uppers and are constructed to protect feet from harsh winter weather and elements. He also points out that both categories do reflect the industry's attempt to break out of the traditional designs by producing models specific to outdoor work, hunting and recreation as well as winter use. Dean also goes into discussing how the climate one lives in should definitely effect their decision making thought process, and consumers shoud consider exactly how much water resistance and warmth they will need before making their final purchase.

The next topic touched upon is the very important topic of comfort. Dean describes how getting the right fit can be tricky because most often these products just don't feel the same as sneakers or hikers and most of the time half sizes are not available. Dean recommends keeping in mind what thickness socks will be worn and if pant legs will be stuffed into the shaft when trying on different products.

Support and cushioning is the final topic discussed and after reiterating that the colder weather winter models often have the most support, Dean recommends purchasing a product with an EVA midsole if it will be intended for use at work. Dean also reminds readers that purchasing insoles and adding them in is always an option and even if there is already a soft and supportive insole in place, it is especially recommended to do so if they tend to be a bit loose. Dean also touches on the subject of style and how, though there are many different makes and models available, they are most often categorized into two groups: work or classic around the town fashionable. He goes over some good tips to consider but points out that ultimately individual expression will be the determining factor for most people when they are making a purchasing decision.
