Author-Speaker Ms. Annu Subramanian Pens New Book ANOTHER HEAVEN On Horrors Of Human Trafficking, Terrorism

By: PRLog
Ms. Subramanian's book ANOTHER HEAVEN gives us a powerful, stinging story in to the connected worlds of human trafficking, terrorism and human rights abuses like no book before or after it.
PRLog - Feb. 15, 2014 - ALBANY, N.Y. -- `Writer of Conscience' Exposes Horrors of Human Trafficking, Terrorism in New Novel ANOTHER HEAVEN

Annu Subramanian's new novel, ANOTHER HEAVEN, exposes with unflinching honesty and deep psychological insight the twisted relationship between terrorism and human trafficking. ANOTHER HEAVEN may be difficult to digest in part, but its frankness and refusal to turn away from the unsparing horror of its terrible premise make the book an essential addition to the literature of terrorism and its links to international human trafficking.

Subramanian, a self-described “writer of conscience,” employs her considerable literary skills in the service of shining a bright light on human rights abuses and terrorism. In her previous novel, WAITING FOR THE PERFECT DAWN, Subramanian focused on bringing awareness about the suppression of women and domestic violence.

In ANOTHER HEAVEN, Tina Matthew, a young American doctoral student in psychology, goes to India for an internship in counter-terrorism. On temporary assignment in Chennai, India, Tina works with Dr. Neil Shaker, an American psychoanalyst who becomes her mentor. Tina unwittingly becomes embroiled in a nightmare in which the terrorist madman Usman, who is poisoned by religious fanaticism, executes his deadly missions through the psychological manipulation of victims of human trafficking. One of his key acolytes is Maya, a tragic victim of human trafficking, whose horrific experience under Usman's spell changes the course of Tina's life and the course of the novel itself.  Usman's belief that he will go to heaven because of his terrible actions gives ironic meaning to the novel's title.

While ANOTHER HEAVEN can be read as a fully-realized story unto itself, Subramanian's main purpose in writing the book, she says, is to “call for a bold campaign against a system that systematically demolishes humanity.” Subramanian decided to write her “research-based” novel while teaching a high school course in Eastern literature. Her research led to the two global issues that highlight the novel – terrorism and human trafficking.

“I come from a part of the world which is still facing religious upheavals and human trafficking,” Subramanian explains. “I decided to use my writing as a tool to address these global issues. I want to raise awareness about human rights abuse and terrorism. To my best knowledge, ANOTHER HEAVEN is the only novel that addresses both issues – human trafficking and terrorism – under a single project.”

With ANOTHER HEAVEN, Subramanian succeeds beyond expectations in combining a compelling story with prevalent tough issues, which she hopes will be digested and understood by her readers.

What critics and readers are saying:

“The basic message of the novel seems to me to be one of hope.  Hope that these terrible actions can be better understood and better dealt with; hope that better understanding and education will lead to fewer of these events in the future; and finally, hope that with better tools and ideas there will be fewer people drawn to these perverse and distorted perspectives that are so appealing to those who are the unwitting pawns in games neither of their understanding nor their choosing.”
Dr. Rudy Nydegger
Professor of psychology and management, Union College and Union Graduate College, New York

“A fascinating story with a suspenseful plot and rich with characters you care about and root for until the end.”
Holly McKenna
Professional media lecturer, SUNY Albany

“I was hooked to the novel right from the prologue!”
