Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) Surgery Numbers on the Rise For Dr Allen Rezai in London

By: PRLog
Dr Allen Rezai, pre-eminent consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon of Harley Street, London announces that there has been a significant increase in demand for Rhinoplasty surgery since Summer 2013.
PRLog - Nov. 9, 2013 - LONDON, U.K. -- Rhinoplasty, or a nose job, is a surgical procedure involving reshaping of the nose that is frequently performed for people who have either trouble with breathing through their nose, have had an accident involving the nose, have suffered a severe facial injury, or for cosmetic reasons wish to improve the symmetry of their face.

The nose is a highly visible facial feature and undergoing surgery to alter its appearance can improve the appearance and nasal function of the patient without a dramatic modification.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most frequently performed of all plastic surgery procedures. It can reduce or increase the size of the nose; it can change the shape of the nose's tip or bridge; it can reduce the distance between nostrils; and it can change the angle between the nose and upper lip.

Frequently performed together with Rhinoplasty surgery is a Septoplasty. This procedure can be undertaken to help patients with difficulty in nasal breathing, or those whose nose cartilage is misaligned. The septoplasty procedure will repair the nasal cavity, resulting in easier breathing and less snoring.

Rhinoplasty can be performed by making a small incision at the base of the nose. This is called Open Rhinoplasty. However with increasing frequency, Rhinoplasty is today being carried out by employing incisions that are well-concealed within the nostrils. This is known as Closed Rhinoplasty.

The following individuals might be considered suitable candidates for Rhinoplasty:

• Those who are unhappy with the current shape and size of their nose
• Those with a bump on the bridge of the nose
• Those with a drooping nasal tip
• Those who possess a thickened and enlarged nasal tip
• Those with excessively wide nostrils
• Those with an off-centre or asymmetrical nose

Dr Rezai offers the advice that "when contemplating Rhinoplasty it is particularly important that potential patients ask themselves precisely why they are considering the procedure, since many will have been self-conscious about their nose for many years. Being the most central and prominent feature of the face, the nose can create all kinds of emotions. The object of nose reshaping surgery is to make the nose more acceptable in the eyes of the patient. Therefore, before consulting a surgeon, it is advisable to be completely certain about just what it is about the nose that is of concern."

Rhinoplasty takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes and is most frequently performed using a general anaesthetic with the majority of patients having an overnight stay in hospital. For those not engaged in physical work, a return to work is normally possible within ten days to two weeks.

Following Rhinoplasty, patients are advised to maintain their head up as much as possible, and in order to hold the nasal bones in their new position, it will be necessary to wear a nose splint for about 7 to 10 days. Most patients report that the operation is surprisingly painless. In the majority of cases, it takes 3 to 6 months for the swelling to subside completely and the final appearance of the new nose to appear.

According to Dr Rezai, "The results of Rhinoplasty are permanent. However differential skin thicknesses and irregularities in internal scarring can all affect the outcome of the surgery, thus rhinoplasty can have a slight higher revision rate than most other procedures. But such revisions are still relatively infrequent and generally minor."
