Nearly 70% of websites not ready for mobile commerce

By: PRLog
A recent survey by website design agency Omoii Ltd asked ecommerce website owners whether they had thought about mobile devices in their website design or marketing strategies, 67% answered they had not considered these platforms.
PRLog - Sep 04, 2013 - LEEDS, U.K. -- Over 1,500 UK ecommerce business owners were asked a range of questions on their past, present and future marketing strategies for mobile platforms.

Over 67% answered they had not considered mobile platforms as part of their digital marketing strategy, additionally only 32% of respondents were aware of how many of their website visitors used mobile devices.

Steve Pritchard – Managing Director at Omoii “The figure was certainly higher than expected, marketing agencies and search engines have been discussing mobile for a number of years now. The fact that this message has not filtered down to clients is worrying”.

According to recent figures from eMarketer mobile commerce sales alone expected to top £6.61billion in 2013 which is 11.5% of total ecommerce sales.

It is estimated that 23.4 million people in the UK, or 58.3% of digital shoppers, will browse or research products on smartphones this year. Nearly 15 million will do the same on tablets.

Pritchard continues “The major retailers have already embraced mobile, leaving smaller businesses behind - delivering a poor mobile user experience. Many owners assume that becoming mobile ready requires considerable re-development, but the most of the time a simple ‘responsive design’ can deliver a seamless mobile ecommerce experience with minimal downtime”.

“We obviously need to continue to educate business owners on the solutions available, we have the ability to target mobile devices across media channels, but if the website cannot deliver a good user experience then revenue will be effected”.

Mobile commerce is set to account for £12.05Billion in the UK alone by 2017, accounting for 16% of retail ecommerce sales, businesses owners are urged to begin developing mobile strategies today.

Omoii Ltd is a website design and marketing agency in Leeds, with over 10 years’ experience in delivering complete digital media solutions for retail, travel and finance clients throughout Europe.
