Doffin Investments to Host Open House Featuring South Bay Student Artists

Students from Otis College, Westwood College and Torrance High School will also receive mentoring advice from professional artists and financial professionals.
PRLog - Jun 14, 2013 - TORRANCE, Calif. -- Artwork by students from Otis College of Art & Design, Westwood College and Torrance High School will be featured in the latest fine art open house and exhibition hosted by Torrance-based Doffin Investments.

Scheduled for Saturday, June 22 at Doffin Investments’ offices in Torrance, the event is free and open to the public, and will include works by more than 40 student artists. Several professional artists from the South Bay area, whose work has been featured in previous Doffin events, will be on hand to provide mentoring advice to their young colleagues. Doffin Investments financial advisors will also provide student artists with advice on entrepreneurism and financial planning, skills they will need when they embark on their careers.

“We want to encourage young artists to think about their futures,” explains Doffin Investments’ Alton Takabayashi. “We want the high school students to see the quality of competition that they will face when they move onto art school. College artists, meanwhile, will have an opportunity to learn about the business skills they will need in the professional world from working artists and financial professionals.”

The event’s focus, adds Takabayashi, is on celebrating creativity and providing fun for the whole family. An original coloring book, based on work by Westwood College artists, will be given to children in attendance.

Doffin has hosted a number of open house art exhibitions over the past two years. They have proven extremely popular, drawing large crowds and resulting in a number of sales of featured art works.

The firm plans to build on the student art exhibition by extending its outreach to local schools. It aims to develop a regular program to teach budding artists, and others, how to be smart business people and financial managers.

“Art schools don’t always provide their students with the business knowledge they will need in the working world,” Takabayashi says. “Students may have a lot of creative talent, but they also need to be skillful in business in order to translate their artistic skills into successful careers.”

The open house will be held on Saturday, June 22nd from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Doffin Investments’ offices, 3655 Torrance Blvd., Suite 250, Torrance, Calif. 90503. RSVP by Tuesday, June 18th. Call Liliana Rodriguez at 310.634.1133.
