OCVC backs employment campaign

By: PRLog
PR Log - Sep 28, 2012 - OCVC, Oxfordshire’s largest provider of further education training is backing a campaign to help the unemployed to find work.

Oxford and Cherwell Valley College (OCVC) is supporting the Oxford Mail’s ‘We Want to Work’ campaign, which is helping 12 jobseekers to find new positions while raising awareness of the county’s unemployment issues.

OCVC offers a range of free courses for people who are actively seeking work but do not have the support of the government’s Work Programme.  It’s Get That Job programme, which has been running since 2009, helped 1,000 unemployed students last year.

It follows four key steps, including an initial workshop, help to get ‘work ready’ through CV writing and job search support  and a chance to gain new skills and qualifications through a wide range of practical, vocational courses. In the final step, a partnership with Reed is helping to match students’ skills with vacancies available in the local area. Trained career and employment advisers are available to help every step of the way.

Liz Armstrong, Assistant Principal; Adult, Higher Education and Community at OCVC, said: “Through Get That Job we can provide a tailored support and training package that can help unemployed people into work. In addition to gaining new skills and qualifications through our vocational courses, students are also equipped with the skills needed to secure employment, from developing their CVs to getting ready for interviews.

“We are pleased to see that the Oxford Mail is raising awareness of unemployment issues and helping people to promote what they have to offer to local employers.”

Courses on offer include accounting and book-keeping, business and administration, construction, health and social care, hospitality/ retail, IT, welding and security. They range in duration from one day sessions to 20-weeks.
