OCVC Graduate features in exhibition of top arts talent

By: PRLog
PR Log - Sep 20, 2012 - An Oxford and Cherwell Valley College (OCVC) art graduate is to have her work showcased in a celebration of the region’s top emerging talent.

Lucy Garnett, who graduated last summer with a BA Hons in Fine Art from OCVC’s Oxfordshire School of Creative Arts in Banbury, will feature in an exhibition at the Oxford Museum of Modern Art from September 29.

Lucy joins nine artists selected from colleges and universities across the South East of England for the Platform exhibition, which is designed to showcase new talent.

Her installation, entitled From East to Western High Street, explores the issues of high street clothing production. It celebrates the skills of Indian textile workers while raising questions about fair wages and working conditions. The installation combines elements of a shop changing room with sweat-shop conditions and includes a video projection and soundtrack which echoes the sounds of factory life.

Chris Muir, lecturer at OCVC’s Oxfordshire School of Creative Arts, said: “This is a fantastic accolade and will help Lucy to achieve public recognition as she starts out on her career. We are delighted that the quality of her work has been recognised and look forward to seeing it on show at the Museum of Modern Art.”

The first part of the Platform exhibition, featuring Lucy’s work, will run from September 29 until October 28.

A shortlist of artists from four similar exhibitions running across the South East will be nominated for the Platform Graduate Award, which includes a financial award of £2,500 and a 12-month programme of professional development.
The Oxford Museum of Modern Art is in Oxford city centre, with entrances on St Ebbe’s and Pembroke Street.

About OCVC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_and_Cherwell_Valley_College)

OCVC provides further education training in Oxfordshire for thousands of students who have turned their lives around with OCVC learning.

OCVC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:OCVC_Logo.jpg) offer a wide range of full and part-time courses from entry to degree level, a range of learning for leisure courses, bespoke employer training, and courses which will help the unemployed get back into work. Oxford and Cherwell Valley College have a friendly and supportive environment where students can make friends, enjoy life as they learn, and enhance their employability, confidence and communication skills alongside their qualification.

OCVC's campuses are located in the ancient university city of Oxford and on the edge of a picturesque Cotswolds market town. The specialist centre in Bicester is based in the heart of the not-so-famous “Motorsport Valley”. Small class sizes in a creative and diverse environment make it a good choice for students eschewing university to achieve their HE qualification.

OCVC has campuses in Bicester, Banbury and in Oxford city. Where students will be taught depends on the course they decide to study, but all campuses are well placed. Oxford and Banbury campuses are within walking distance of their historic centres, and Bicester is at the heart of 'Motorsport valley' offering the full motorsports experience to engineering students.
