News Corporation’s Education Division Names Diana Rhoten Senior Vice President, Strategy

News Corporation’s Education Division has named Diana Rhoten, Ph.D., Senior Vice President, Strategy.

Ms. Rhoten will be based in New York and report to Joel Klein, CEO, News Corporation’s Education Division.

“Diana’s deep immersion in the world of digital learning startups, coupled with her scholarly work at the intersection of education, innovation and technology, make her the perfect complement to the Education Division’s leadership team,” said Joel Klein. “She will play a key role in evaluating potential partnerships and ensuring we make appropriate, targeted investments as we build our business.”

Ms. Rhoten is the co-founder of Startl, a venture dedicated to designing products for and accelerating startups in the education technology and digital learning market. She served as Startl’s managing director until her current appointment. Ms. Rhoten is also the founder of the New Youth City Learning Network, which helps institutions across New York City design and develop innovative learning experiences using new media and technologies.

She also founded and directed the Knowledge Institutions and Digital Media and Learning Programs at the Social Science Research Council and was a program director in the Office of Cyberinfrastructure at the National Science Foundation. Ms. Rhoten has also served as an assistant professor of education at Stanford University and an education policy analyst and adviser to the Governor of Massachusetts.

Ms. Rhoten holds a Ph.D. in education policy and an M.A. in sociology from Stanford University, as well as a M.Ed. from Harvard University and an A.B. from Brown University.
