Saving the World One Game at a Time... Are You Ready To Play?

The Software Productization Center at Millersville University has recently collaborated with startup company, Runoff Studios to create Face the Waste. Their initiative involves creating environmentally-focused, educational games for kids and tweens.

The founder of Runoff Studios, along with university students and professors from the computer science, art/design, and business departments worked together to create an educational game application for Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. The game, ‘Face the Waste’, is designed to be engaging and fun while simultaneously teaching players about recycling.

Stop the evil villain Toxic Tim from turning the planet into the universe’s largest trash dump with your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad! Sort a variety of items from conveyor belts into the correct recycling bin without letting Toxic Tim get in your way. Unlock mind-boggling recycling facts to share with friends on Facebook and Twitter. Featuring special ability items with helpful surprises, global high score leaderboards and achievements all with a slide of your finger. ‘Face the Waste’ is an easy to learn, increasingly challenging, and downright addictive game now available on the iTunes app store for 99 cents.

‘Face the Waste’ is envisioned as just the first in a series of environmentally-focused, educational games. Runoff Studios founder and Chief Creative Officer, Jacob Walker, has strong beliefs regarding the importance of making a positive impact for future generations. As Jake says, “The reason I started Runoff Studios is because I want to help people better understand the environment around them, and not only that, I want to help people preserve it for future generations.” Walker decided to start giving back by donating five cents of every sale up to 50 thousand dollars to the National Environmental Education Foundation. Trained in 3D animation, the visual aspects of educational games strike him as the best way to engage the next generation in environmental issues. Working with the SPC has given him an opportunity to turn his ideas into reality.
