SAN FRANCISCO -- Archer Daniels Midland Co. shares gained 7% in early trading on Tuesday, leading the S&P 500 higher following its upbeat second-quarter report. The agricultural giant reported a profit of $729 million, up from $561 million a year ago on strength in the company's corn-processing and ag-services businesses. The stock has rallied 16% in the past year.
