CalAmp Announces Four New Wireless Communications Products

CalAmp Corp. (Nasdaq:CAMP), a leading provider of wireless communication solutions, announced today at the CTIA Wireless Show in Orlando, Florida, the addition of four new products for the Mobile Resource Management (MRM) market. These products are targeted for applications in the vehicle tracking, fleet management, cargo tracking, public safety and public transit markets. The products include two new Location Messaging Units, a Remote Monitoring Unit and a Cellular Data Modem. Each product incorporates CalAmps proprietary Programming/Provisioning Update and Logistical System (PULS) that allows for over-the-air, in-field device configuration, firmware upgrade and diagnostics.

CalAmps Location Messaging Units (LMU) and Remote Monitoring Units (RMU) utilize the Companys embedded Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology to provide cellular-based wireless asset tracking capabilities. These products include:

  • The LMU1000, a streamlined and economical asset tracking product designed for the vehicle finance market. It utilizes GSM/GPRS cellular technology and can be purchased with either internal or external antenna configurations.
  • The LMU4100, a highly configurable asset tracking product designed for the demanding local fleet management market that can meet the needs of a diverse customer base. It utilizes CalAmps industry leading on-board programmable event generator (PEG) and can be equipped with GSM/GPRS, CDMA/1X, iDEN, up to 17 Input/Output signals, 2 serial ports, Bluetooth, and external antenna configurations.
  • The RMU100, which can be configured with external backup battery and either internal or external antennas. It utilizes GSM/GPRS technology with up to two Input/Outputs and is well suited for high-value asset monitoring for both mobile as well as static applications.

CalAmps Cellular Data Modem CDM822 features the latest in wireless broadband data communications. The CDM882 enables communications and routing from Ethernet, USB, and Serial connections over 3G wireless networks supporting either HSDPA/UMTS (High Speed Downlink Packet Access/Universal Mobile Telephone System) and EVDO Rev A (Evolution Data Optimized CDMA). CalAmps CDM882 pushes the boundaries of the wireless experience with technology supporting connections up to 3.6 Mbps to transfer video, graphics, pictures and other high bandwidth content. The video and high speed broadband capabilities coupled with industry standard interfaces makes this product ideal for SCADA/telemetry, security and transit markets.

CalAmp is pleased to announce the launch of these new products. This is the culmination of several development activities, and it represents an important step in expanding our existing MRM business, said Fred Sturm, CalAmps President and CEO. We believe this new suite of products has the right feature sets and price points to meet growing demand by customers for a wide array of MRM end-market applications. The development of these products along with other recent actions, including our acquisition of a vehicle tracking business from AirIQ, affirm our strategy to expand CalAmp's wireless datacom business.
