Ciena® Corporation (NASDAQ:CIEN), the network specialist, today announced that Dreamline Co., Ltd., a leading broadband service provider in South Korea, has selected Ciena’s CN 4200™ FlexSelect™ Advanced Services Platform to support the delivery of new Ethernet services for its growing base of leased-line customers in the region. The flexibility inherent in Ciena’s CN 4200 platform will enable Dreamline to more cost-effectively deliver services on demand and improve the overall performance of its backbone network.
A competitive carrier with more than 24,000 kilometers of fiber deployed in Korea, Dreamline owns and operates a nationwide DWDM network comprised of both mesh and ring topologies with 400 Gbps of capacity in most metropolitan areas. In an effort to bolster its service portfolio beyond 2.5G services, which are in increasing demand from its residential and business customers, Dreamline is upgrading its network architecture to support 10G services and address growing demand for bandwidth. Realizing the need for enhanced flexibility and scalability to successfully achieve that upgrade, Dreamline selected Ciena’s CN 4200 platform for deployment throughout the network to provide 10G TDM, 10G Ethernet and sub-wavelength services to the carrier’s growing customer base.
“As demand continues for higher speed and more diverse services, we needed to implement a solution that enables the flexibility to dynamically support changing capacity requirements and rapidly respond to requests for new services,” said Gi-Young Park, technical investigation and network planning team leader at Dreamline. “Ciena’s CN 4200 platform provides this functionality with software-defined ports and remote provisioning capabilities to deliver any combination of services at any time, while reducing the cost and complexity of our network by aggregating any service on a single platform.”
Dreamline will deploy Ciena’s CN 4200 in its DWDM backbone network to carry TDM and Ethernet traffic for customers throughout the region. Dreamline also plans to employ Ciena’s ON-Center® Network and Service Management Suite to maximize network flexibility, enhance element manageability, and more efficiently utilize resources throughout the network. Ciena has partnered with Yukyung, a Korean systems integrator, to deploy these solutions in Dreamline’s network.
“As the network specialist, Ciena is focused on identifying and delivering solutions that are tailored to the unique needs of our customers,” said Mike Aquino, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Ciena. “The deployment of the CN 4200 platform will enable Dreamline to more efficiently enhance the scalability and flexibility of its regional and metro service offerings while protecting existing network investments. Moreover, the CN 4200 enables Dreamline to reduce complexity and help mitigate current and future costs of running its network.”
Ciena's CN 4200, the flagship product of its FlexSelect Architecture and a key element of its FlexSelect for Ethernet solution, is the first multiservice transport and service aggregation platform capable of supporting the migration to packet networks using future-ready technology such as ITU G.709 Optical Transport Network (OTN) for service transparency, dynamic wavelength routing featuring a hybrid ROADM solution, and remote service provisioning and management capabilities. Using software-defined service ports, it is capable of on-demand support for any transport or service protocol—including SONET/SDH, Ethernet, storage (Fibre Channel, FICON, ESCON) or video—at any speed on any available port.
