U.S. firms eye Australia's Whitehaven Coal - paper

SYDNEY, Aug 9 (Reuters) - U.S. companies First Reserve and Alpha Natural Resources are considering a possible $2.75 billion buyout of Australian coal miner Whitehaven Coal , the Australian newspaper reported on Monday.
