Walter Galvin Named Emerson Vice Chairman

Walter J. Galvin, chief financial officer of Emerson (NYSE:EMR), was named today as its vice chairman.

Galvin, 62, has served as senior executive vice president since 2004, and has been CFO since 1993. In announcing Galvin’s promotion, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President David N. Farr praised Galvin’s strong record of financial leadership and outstanding contributions to the company’s growth and its strategic global position.

“Walter has been a force for action and he is a vital member of the management team and the Office of Chief Executive,” Farr said. “His sound, ethical judgment; strong direction and leadership on so many fronts; and passionate commitment to Emerson’s future merit this recognition and promotion.”

Galvin became an executive vice president of the company in 2000 and was promoted to senior executive vice president in 2004. He has served as a management member of Emerson’s Board of Directors since 2000.

Galvin joined Emerson in 1973 and served as the controller at the Ridge Tool subsidiary. In 1978, he was promoted to assistant vice president of investor relations at Emerson. In 1981, he became vice president of finance at Emerson’s U.S. Electrical Motors division and was later named its executive vice president of finance and administration. Galvin returned to the corporate headquarters in 1984 as vice president of financial analysis and systems, and was later promoted to senior vice president and controller.

Prior to joining Emerson, Galvin spent three years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy with duties as an operations officer before his discharge in 1971.

Galvin currently serves on the board of directors for Ameren Corporation and F.M. Global Insurance Company. In addition, he is a member of the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers (both in Washington, D.C.).

Active in St. Louis civic and charitable causes, Galvin serves on the boards of directors of Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital (St. Louis), the United Way of Greater St. Louis, and he is currently President of the Saint Louis Zoo Association.

Galvin received a bachelor’s of science degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master’s degree in business administration from Cornell University.
