Item 8.01 Other Events.

     On May 2, 2006, BankAtlantic Bancorp’s Board of Directors approved the repurchase through a share repurchase program of up to 6,000,000 shares of its Class A Common Stock. The press release announcing the approval of the program is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and incorporated herein.
