On July 25, 2006, HEI issued the following news release:

HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES, INC. TO WEBCAST AND TELECONFERENCE 2006 SECOND QUARTER EARNINGS ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2, 2006

HONOLULU — Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (NYSE - HE) announced that its 2006 second quarter earnings will be released on August 1, 2006. The Company will also conduct an audio webcast and teleconference call to review its second quarter on Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at 1:00 PM EST. The event can be accessed through HEI’s website at http://www.hei.com or by dialing (800) 901-5241, pass code: 98599299 for the teleconference call.

An online replay of the webcast will be available at the same website beginning about two hours after the event. Replays of the teleconference call will also be available approximately two hours after the event through August 16, 2006, by dialing (888) 286-8010, pass code: 87726776.

Representing management will be Constance H. Lau, president and chief executive officer, Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. and chairman, president and chief executive officer, American Savings Bank, F.S.B.; T.
